The fourth biennial Santos GLNG Mayor’s Charity Ball was a major success and surpassed its fundraising target, raising $91,801.81. The sold out gala event, whisked guests away for a night of Monte Carlo-esque fun and Gladstone Region Mayor Matt Burnett thanked the community and the event sponsors for their overwhelming support. “The night was a fantastic success, and it was great to see so many people from our community putting the fun in fundraising,” Councillor Burnett said. “Our region lived up to its reputation for digging deep in support of charities and Gladstone Regional Council is proud to support this event.”
The funds received from this event go towards building our community centre at the Tondoon Botanic Gardens. Our building ill be made from recycled shipping containers and other recycled materials. Our team have been working with a local architect John Bright to design a centre we believe will be eye-catching, practical, achievable, and off-the-grid.
The centre will provide us with a venue for a variety of recycling engagement programs including schools and community education, recycled art workshops, and waste minimisation projects. The venue will also have an office, art gallery space and room for small functions. We believe it is important that this facility grow organically in line with community needs, enabling and empowering everyone to be part of the solution: a connected community working harmoniously to embrace and action changes for present and future generations.
