The team from the Creative Recycling Centre is inviting Gladstone residents to help create a giant Mandala from local materials at this year’s Gladstone Harbour Festival as part of Gladstone Port’s Corporation’s Pop Up Art Village.
A Mandala is a design within a circle and mandala art is ancient - more than 2000 years old. They are found in many cultures and they symbolically represent life and its constant cycles and interconnection. Nature mandalas are a way for people to strengthen the connective bond between themselves and nature.
The 3-metre diameter Mandala will be made on Friday 10th April between 9am and 3pm at a site in the festival village behind the Gladstone Ports Corporation Marina Stage at the Harbour Festival.
It is a fun activity open to all ages and abilities and no creative experience is necessary.
Mandalas are ephemeral which means they only last a short time. At the end of the day the Mandala will be cleaned up, with materials returned to nature and the site returned to its original state.
This project has been kindly funded by the Queensland Government and Gladstone Regional Council Regional Arts Development Fund, Gladstone Festivals and Events and the Creative Recycling Centre.
