In 2022, Creative Recycling Centre (CRC) delivered 15 environmental education workshops to upper primary schools across the Gladstone Region based on its successful Dear Earth – Ecosystem Restoration program developed as part of Ecofest 2021.
CRC’s Ecosystem Workshop explores the concepts of ecosystems and their components, as well as human impacts and brainstorming ways to restore ecosystems. This is achieved through participation in a fun, interactive ecosystem game created by CRC. The lesson will culminate with students writing a letter to Earth, expressing their feelings, hopes and/or pledges of individual action to protect and restore our natural ecosystems.
This unique lesson for upper primary school aged children encourages creative thinking, applied learning and teamwork. Empowering our youth to understand the local environment and know what they can do individually to contribute to a healthy environment, will create behaviour change in our community.
Over 300 upper primary school students from St Francis Catholic Primary School, St John the Baptist Catholic Primary School, Star of the Sea Catholic Primary School, Gladstone South State School and Gladstone Central State School participated in the workshops. The students brainstormed some great ways to reduce human impacts on our local ecosystems.
Some of the feedback we have received from the teachers....

"Awesome workshop! Great to have kids moving around and the activities kept them very focused." Teacher, St Johns
These workshops are proudly supported by Community Bank Calliope and Gladstone.
