Recycled Children's Pop-up Libraries
Creative Recycling Centre were approached by the Gladstone Library to come up with a proposal on how to design and make a children's portable, engaging and safe container to house books.
We went forth and designed the "drum clan" a collection of containers or Pop-ups as we call them, made from blue chemical drums that are widely used in our area by the many industries we have with in our town.
The Pop-ups were designed into Australian animals to capture the children's engagement and to explore the world of books and reading.

Frieda Fish - was made with a focus on recycling coffee pods and old kitchen utensils.
Matilda Mouse - was made with a focus on using old removalists felt, and found objects. Eddie Echidna - also used old coffee pods along with old house hold utensils and discarded plastic cable covering. |
Freddy Frog - was made with recycled fabric, kitchen utensils and old swim flippers.

Creative Recycling Centre's Intention behind the characters
The Intention behind the creations we designed to showcase just how many items are wasted not only around the home but with in our community as a whole and how they can be used to create an interesting and purposeful creation.
We wanted each item that was used to help bring the characters to life, to be easily identifiable and for each person to recognize what the items were and to notice that they were being used in a new way.
Our objective was to make something that engaged children but also allowed the adults to find them interesting and to take their minds on a path of recognition with the items used.
